Dan Boever, an acclaimed golf trick-shot artist and former RE/MAX world long-drive champion, will headline the inaugural “More Than Pink Drinks & Links” golf tournament on Monday, Aug. 5 at The Waterfront Country Club.
“Dan is an incredible entertainer well known for his hilarious and engaging shows,” said Tim Wheeler, a member of the event’s organizing committee. “From Gary McCord to David Feherty to Bill Engvall – people have nothing but amazing things to say about Dan, so we’re thrilled to bring him to Smith Mountain Lake to benefit such a great cause.”
Registration is open for the tournament, which benefits the Virginia Blue Ridge Affiliate of Susan G. Komen, a foundation whose mission is to save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer.
Boever’s show will start at 8:30 a.m. and the Captain’s Choice-format tournament will tee off at 9:30 a.m. Boever will be out on the course throughout the day interacting with players. Lunch, awards and a meet-and-greet reception will follow in the country club’s ballroom.
“This is going to be an amazing day and a first-class event,” said Wheeler, noting that all players will receive a variety of tee gifts and have the opportunity to win hole-in-one and team prizes.
In addition to the tournament, tickets are on sale for the More Than Pink Party & Auction on Aug. 3 at The Waterfront. The auction raised $30,000 last year and helped earn the committee the Komen affiliate’s 2019 Rising Star Award, presented to volunteers who’ve made large impact in a short period of time.
This year’s party will feature gourmet food and beverages, an extensive silent auction, live auction, dancing to live music from two local bands – Cecil2 and 89 Proof – as well as an exciting pink golf ball drop, part of a one-of-a-kind 50-50 raffle.
“Our goal is to sell $10,000 worth of golf balls, which would be a $5,000 payout to the winner,” Wheeler said. “Golf balls are on sale now, and you don’t have to be present to win.”
Golf balls for the raffle may be purchased at American National Bank (Westlake), Bank of Botetourt (Westlake), Emma Williams Salon, Virginia Office Supply, Franklin Glass, Moosie’s, The Waterfront Country Club, The Water’s Edge Country Club and Haywood’s Jewelers (Westlake).
More than Pink Drinks & Links, which will start at 6 p.m., is limited to 200 guests and is expected to be a sellout. Tickets are $75 per person and may be purchased securely online at bitly.com/smlpink.
Area businesses and individuals interested in donating auction items, may contact Melanie Wheeler no later than July 25 at firstname.lastname@example.org or 540-400-2518.
