Last fall, around a year after he began posting songs to SoundCloud and a few months after his 17th birthday, Kidd G cracked the Billboard charts — as a country singer. In October, his single “Dirt Road” was his first attempt at country music-

a slice-of-life country-pop tale set to sparse hip-hop beats. He released his debut EP the following year and followed it up with 2021’s full-length Down Home Boy, an album that blurred the borders between country, hip-hop, and pop.

Born Jonathan Horne in the small town of Hamilton, Georgia, KIDD G became a rising star on various social media platforms with his earnest mix of country storytelling and rap swagger.
