AUDITIONS | ‘9 to 5, The Musical’

Join P&HCC PRODUCTIONS for ‘9 to 5’ auditions!

9 to 5: The Musical, nominated for four Tony and 15 Drama Desk Awards, based on the hit 1980 movie, features a vibrant Dolly Parton score, and tells the uplifting story of working women pushed to the boiling point standing up for themselves against the male-dominated management, and winning!

THURSDAY, FEB. 1 | 5:30-8:30 p.m. | By Appointment
On Thursday, we encourage actors to sign-up for an audition time. We will try to accommodate any walk-ins before the last scheduled audition.

SATURDAY, FEB. 3 | 1:00-3:30 p.m. | Open-Call
Actors are invited to audition between 1:00-4:00 p.m. and will audition in the order they arrive.

>> AUDITION REQUIREMENT

Actors must be 17yr+ to audition. No experience necessary. All roles are volunteer.

Please prepare 32-bars (roughly 1 verse, 1 chorus) of song in the style of the show a cappella – that best showcases your range and ability. An accompanist will not be provided. Additionally, our Staff may ask you to cold read for 1-2 characters from the script. Cold readings from sides will be provided during the audition.

The creative team is committed to casting practices that advance diversity and inclusion. All ethnicities, genders, and abilities will be considered for every role. Additionally, the genders listed in the breakdown below are specific to the pronouns used in the script, however the creative team may consider any gender identity for roles provided the performer can execute the vocal requirements.

SATURDAY, FEB. 3 | 3:30-5:00 p.m. | By Invitation
Actors who are invited to Callbacks will be given material during their audition. Not getting a Callback does NOT mean you aren’t being considered for a role.

>> REHEARSALS

Feb. 5, 6, 8, 13, 15 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Beginning Feb. 19, we will rehearse Monday thru Thursday from 5:30-8:30 p.m., and 1-2 Saturday rehearsals from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Total of thirty (30) rehearsals. Please list any conflicts on your audition form. We are unable to accept conflicts effective Apr. 22-May 5.

>> CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
Note*: Actors will double in ensemble.

Strong Singing Roles:

VIOLET NEWSTEAD (Alto): The Company’s head secretary and Mr. Hart’s Administrative Assistant, she is a single mother and typically stands up for what she believes in. Attractive, strong, ambitious.

JUDY BERNLY (Mezzo-Soprano): The “new” girl at the firm, she has been burned by her husband’s affair and is searching for personal empowerment. Insecure, determined, and hopeful.

DORALEE RHODES (Mezzo-Soprano): A young, sexy spitfire who works at Mr. Hart’s office. She is proof that there is more to a woman than just her looks.

ROZ KEITH (Alto): The attentive office gossip queen and snitch. She has an unrequited love for Mr. Hart and will do anything she can to win his approval.

FRANKLIN HART (Bari-Tenor): One of the firm’s executives and a notorious chauvinist. He is capable of faking charm but usually shows his true colors as an arrogant, self-absorbed boss.

JOE* (Tenor): Charming, attractive accountant who is interested in Violet.

Non-Singing Roles:

JOSH*: Violet’s awkward teenage son.

DICK*: Judy’s soon-to-be ex-husband. An average guy, he is sporting a little less hair and a little more paunch than he did ten years ago.

DWAYNE* (Bari-Tenor): Doralee’s attractive husband. He is very supportive of her professional pursuits.
