Rocky Mount’s Community Partnership is sponsoring a scarecrow contest in the Rocky Mount Central Business District that has really captured the community’s interest. Most businesses in the district and several from outside the district have been assigned a light pole and decorated it with a scarecrow that represents their business or group.
The fire department has one in fire gear; the Amish furniture store has an Amish sawyer; the car wash scarecrow holds a wash bucket full of suds; the public library has Humpty Dumpty and a king’s horse.
Rocky Mount is up to around two dozen scarecrows attracting people to walk and ride through the town’s central business district.
